I’d like to take a moment to introduce Lauren Collister, who is a new writer joining our staff.
Lauren is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Linguistics at University of Pittsburgh. Her focus is in sociolinguistics, which is the study of how social situations affect language and language attitudes, how these can affect the way a language is spoken, and how social meaning is expressed through language. Lauren has been focusing her research on how players in World of Warcraft use productive and creative game-native linguistic devices in discourse, and the linguistic presentation of identity in the online world and its relation (or lack thereof) to physical world identity.
Lauren brings unique theoretical and methodological approaches to Motivate. Play. and we are excited to have her on board.
